Tyrosine - an important study in the effective use of tyrosine for the treatment of depression has been published in the May, 1980 issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry. According to Dr. Alan J. Gelenberg, Department of Psychiatry at Harvard medical School, the basic cause of depression may be a deficiency of norepinephrine transmission at specific locations in the brain. Norepinephrine is a particular hormone needed to help control problems of depression. The presence of the amino acid, tyrosine, creates biological reactions that stimulate certain glands in the body to release norepinephrine and eliminate depression.
