Nattokinase derives from the popular Japanese food Natto, made from boiled and fermented soybeans. Natto has been a part of the Japanese diet for centuries and researchers believe that this food is responsible for their incredible longevity.

Nearly 20 years ago . . .
While investigating natural food sources for fibrinolytic
(blood clot busting) activity, a
University of Chicago researcher, Dr. Hiroyuki Sumi, discovered a potent
fibrinolytic enzyme in a popular Japanese fermented food. His research
group tested 173 foods including the traditional Japanese food called Natto.
Dr. Sumi named the corresponding enzyme "nattokinase."
"In all my years of research as a professor of cardiovascular
and pulmonary medicine, natto and nattokinase represent
the most exciting new development in the prevention and
treatment of cardiovascular-related diseases"
- Martin Milner, N.D.
How the Nattokinase enzyme works
The body produces an enzyme that works to dissolve unnecessary blood clots in the circulatory system. This works to prevent thickening of the blood, high blood pressure and the risk of heart attack and stroke. As we age, production of this enzyme declines, and the addition of Nattokinase to the diet helps dissolve possible blood clots that may be lurking in your circulatory system.
Clinical Studies
Nattokinase has been the subject of 17 studies including two small human trials. Researchers from Oklahoma State University and Miyazaki Medical College tested nattokinase on 12 healthy volunteers between the ages of 21 and 55. Test confirmed subjects enhanced ability to dissolve blood clots for two to eight hours after ingesting nattokinase.
Daily use of Nattokinase works like aspirin as a blood thinner, with none of the gastrointestinal (GI) side effects of aspirin.†

Note: If you are taking anti-coagulants, aspirin, coumadin or other medicines or herbs that thin the blood, consult your physician before taking Natto.
