The primary use for N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is as a mucus reducing agent. NAC breaks up and reduces mucus  so there's less viscosity and congestion that occurs with nasal and sinus drainage (post nasal drip).

NAC is a specialized form of the amino acid cysteine, that modulates the production of and is precursor toNAC (N Acetyl Cysteine) precursor to glutathione the body's cellular antioxidant glutathione, the body's Major cellular antioxidant. Glutathione helps protect the body against natural and man-made oxidants. Glutathione is also an antitoxin and a neurotransmitter.†
