Health Updates
"Mommy, what's Antioxidant?"
Studies have associated
coffee drinking with a reduced risk of liver and colon cancer, type two
diabetes, and Parkinson's disease. According to a 2005 study by the American
Cocoa Research Institute presented at the American Chemical Society annual
meeting, coffee edged out other antioxidant-rich foods. Dates, for example,
contain more antioxidants per serving but are not as popular a dietary component
as coffee. Other healthful choices include Tomatoes.
Antioxidants help to rid
the body of harmful free radicals, destructive molecules that damage cells and
DNA. They have been linked to a number of health benefits, including protection
against heart disease and cancer .
Grape Seed - solution for ankle swelling
Pain during walking due to swelling limbs (edema) is a condition that thousands
of Americans develop with age. OPC (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin), is a product
derived from grapeseed that has performed superior to prescription drugs for the
condition known as Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). CVI is caused when leg
veins cannot pump enough blood back into the heart, and if left untreated can
develop into the dangerous condition of deep vein thrombosis. OPC supports an
efficient vascular system and helps prevent seepage of blood into tissues,
thereby reducing pain and swelling. Scientists in Europe call OPC the "youth
nutrient" due to its free-radical scavenging. OPC, a valued super antioxidant
has been used for many years.
Why Doctors Don't Get Sick
A 2005 poll found that more than 60% of doctors take
nutritional supplements
regularly, even though they don't recommend them to their patients! They do this secretly rather than risk facing ridicule from their colleagues.
The sad truth is, doctors cannot recommend nutritional supplements or they risk
consequences from the medical board. However, if you tell your doctor that
supplements are helping you, most doctors will tell you to keep doing whatever
works!
Alzheimer's Update: The Immune System Connection
Researchers are investigating
inflammation and
overactive immune function as
possible causes of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists are furiously searching for
causes of the "ticking time bomb" in our brains. Ten per cent of seniors over 65
have Alzheimer's disease, an 50 percent of those over 85 are afflicted.
