Mellow Mind
with Ashwagandha

A mega-dose of the well-known healing herb Ashwagandha combined with Ester C, makes up the unique formula of Mellow Mind. One of the most highly valued herbs in the Ayurvedic medical system, the plant called ashwagandha (withania somnifera) has been used for 3,000 years in India and is traditionally used to “balance life forces.”

Over 35 active chemicals have been identified in ashwagandha making it useful for a variety of health concerns. The active principles of alkaloids, withanoloids and withaferins have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-infection actions that promote longevity and strengthen the immune system. Superior to ginseng in its ability to increase energy, ashwagandha promotes vitality and stamina without stimulating the body’s reserves.

Somniferine
has hypnotic or sedative properties and promotes deep, dreamless sleep. According to Miguel Tiraina, Ph.D., ashwagandha appears to assist in the release of brain chemicals that soothe the nervous system, and is referred to as an anti-stress adaptogen.

An adaptogen is any substance that helps the body adapt and protects it from biological, chemical and physical stress. Experts believe ashwagandha encourages sleep in the same way it banishes stress—by lowering blood levels of stress hormones that disrupt sleep cycles.

Clinical Studies

A double-blind randomized clinical study of the effects of ashwagandha on the aging process produced amazing benefits. The trial, conducted at the Central Research Institute in New Delhi, India, monitored 101 healthy males between the ages of 50 and 59. In this rigorous year-long study, the men taking ashwagandha experienced improved seated stature, increased hair melanin, hemoglobin and red blood counts that were statistically significant when compared to the placebo group. They also showed a decrease in serum cholesterol and Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate. Further, the men taking ashwagandha showed less decrease in serum albumin, nail calcium, and vital capacity than those taking the placebo. Finally, nearly 75% of the men taking ashwagandha experienced a subjective improvement in their sexual performance capacity.

According to this and other studies, ashwagandha increases hemoglobin and red blood cell count in doses of 3 grams per day. Ashwagandha contains free amino acids such as glycine, valine, tyrosine, proline and alanine. Pharmacological research validates the multiple activities of antibacterial, antifungal, ameobicidal in ashwagandha. This along with its many healing properties makes it an adaptogen for the 21st century.
