Help for Smoking

The American Cancer society says you can start reaping the benefits of putting down that cigarette after just 20 minutes. Your body will quickly begin a series of rejuvenating changes that continue to be evident for years.

Tobacco usage is the number one cause of death
in the United States according to research published in
the Journal of the American Medical Association, March 10, 2004.

But smokers know the statistics and they know tobacco is harmful. Some researchers have reported that nicotine addiction can be as strong as heroine so how is the best way to quit? Nicotine patches, gum and lozenges can be helpful for some but they are still a source of nicotine and there are reports of people actually become addicted to them! Quitting doesn’t have to be overly painful however; nutritional support can help you breeze through the withdrawal process.

Nutritional Support Program used at the Pain & Stress Center:

Sulfonil - Patented thioglycerols in Sulfonil bind to the nicotine cell receptor sites preventing nicotine from attaching and thereby minimizing the craving for nicotine. Sulfonil can inhibit the effect of nicotine in the brain. Dr. Julian Whitaker of the Whitaker Wellness Institute recommends taking two capsules when you get up everyday, plus one every four to six hours during the day and two more at bedtime. You only need to take it as long as you have cravings, usually three days to two weeks.

L-Theanine - The relaxation amino acid helps to relieve the anxiety associated with any withdrawal process. Theanine helps to increase concentration and focus that helps to relieve the spacey feeling many have when quitting smoking. Take one or two capsules up to three times a day.

Mag Link - Magnesium is an essential mineral required for over 350 enzymatic reactions and necessary for thousands more. Low levels of magnesium are implicated in fatal heart attacks. Smoking severally depletes magnesium. Mag Link will replenish magnesium levels with the added bonus of increased energy.

Alpha-lipoic acid, NAC, and Ester C - Author and health expert Dr. Sherry Rogers, M.D., calls these three supplements the “detox cocktail”. When taken together they have the ability to increase glutathione levels, the body’s most potent detoxifier present in every cell. Tobacco contains many toxins, which need to be flushed from the body. The detox cocktail will assist the body in the healing process.

As always, drink lots of water!
