Metabolic Synd | Why D is hot A peek inside the teen brain
The teen years are a time of continuous changes in
brain chemistry.
During adolescence, the teen brain undergoes a
multitude of changes. Neural pathways--the connections between neurons
affecting emotional control--physical ability and mental cognition are
still not fully developed.
Researchers have documented that hormones do impact
the brain development of teens; estrogen and testosterone triggering
apparent genetic link behavior. The cause of negative behavior can be a
result of not only genes, but also brain chemistry.
The teen's brain never slows down, and must be
provided with proper nourishment to create needed neurotransmitters.
Neurotransmitters come from amino acids that balance the brain's
chemistry. Research has demonstrated that poor nutrition at any time in life can permanently alter
brain development. Cognitive processes such as learning, thinking and
remembering can become impaired during the teen years.
The delicate balance of the limbic system, including
the amygdala and prefrontal cortex is the key to how critical judgments
are formed. In the case of most teens, the limbic system is in overdrive,
the amygdala is a storehouse of unresolved anxiety and the prefrontal
cortex is sleepwalking.
The limbic system stays in overdrive due to an
excessive production of sex hormones. Research demonstrates alterations of
function in the limbic system affects emotional responses of motivation,
reasoning, emotional memory, and impulse control.
The amygdala is the emotional center of the brain
where everything is stored, especially negative emotions. The amygdala is
also a control center for the mind and body, and can release feelings of
anger, fear, panic. Teen Link and
SBNC are formulated to control this
release, providing a balance of critical amino acids that provide
serotonin, dopamine, noreprinephrine and GABA. Studies done at the
University of Illinois Medical School found children and teens with
aggressive and disruptive behavior all had low levels of the major
inhibitory neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin and dopamine are the
master hormones that govern mood and create control in extreme situations.
The prefrontal cortex is also closely linked to the
limbic system. It plays a part in pleasure and addiction, and is believed
to be involved in thinking about the future, making plans and taking
action. Brain Link is a complete formula providing vitamins, minerals and
all 20 essential amino acids for a daily brain boost that helps with
focus, learning, memory and mental energy.
Parents tend to think that teens should be
able to control their behavior, considering they don't have adult
responsibilities. And expecting them to explain their behavior just adds
fuel to the fire! In addition to schoolwork, a multitude of potential
pressures including inadequate sleep, stimulants, medication, illness,
trauma, metabolic disorders, poor nutrition, anxiety, fear of failure, low
self esteem, puberty and peer pressure all work to deplete the teen brain
of nutrients essential for mental and emotional health.
Help your teen cope effectively with the changing
emotional and intellectual growth of the brain with
Teen Link,
Brain Link
and other amino acid formulas. Your teenager, and the rest of the
family will thank you. See our
