OMEGA 3's
Inattentiveness |
Impulsiveness | Hyperactivity
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP YOUR TEEN WITH A.D.D.?
According to English researchers, supplementing with omega 3 and omega 6
fish oils could improve behavior and attention span of teens with ADHD.
The new study supplemented teens ages 12 to 15 with over 90% who have
moderate to severe ADHD. ADHD afflicts boys 3 times more often than
girls. The main behaviors include inattentiveness, impulsiveness,
and hyperactivity.
A similar study using omega 3 fish oil was done with 18 to 20 months
children. The study demonstrated positive effects on behavior.
Further research is coming including the use of fish oil supplementation
for food intolerant autistic children.

You are what you absorb |
Supplements vs Medicine | Gut Instincts
Just how much of your
supplements are you really absorbing?
Our society's busy lifestyle makes
supplementation a convenient way to add nutrients that may be missing from
our diet. Since these vitamins must navigate the 30-foot long digestive
tract, there are many twists and turns to sidetrack important nutrients.
As the phrase coined by Dr. Gloria Gilbere (Naturopathic Doctor) suggests,
The road to health is paved with good intestines. Another words, you
aren't what you eat-you are what you absorb!
Gut instincts
We live in a world of acid indigestion and gastric-reflux
disorders. That's because poor digestion, medications and certain bowel
diseases can affect absorption. Studies show that poor eating habits are behind these
disorders, yet we continue to pop antacids that further hinder
absorption. Age also influences digestion and absorption. After age 65,
you have a one-in-three chance of producing too little stomach acid. This
leads to a deficiency of vitamin B12 (even eating B12-rich foods). Severe
deficiencies can lead to pernicious anemia and mimic Alzheimer's symptoms.

Weak Immune System | Heart Disease | Diabetes | Cancer | Radiation | Free Radical Damage +
Aging
Is there a single nutrient that can help protect you against many types of disease?
Research in immunology and cancer over the past 50 years has revealed a team of
workhorses called Beta Glucans. The necessary work they perform in the body
provides a natural weapon against disease and enables a long an healthy life.
Beta Glucans are a form of natural soluble dietary fiber found in foods,
including grains (such as barley, oats and corn bran) and mushrooms (such as
maitake, reishi, and shiitake). Beta glucans are sugar molecules
(polysaccharides) bound together as a sugar/protein complex, They are absorbed
into the body through the intestines.
Immune System and Infection
Beta Glucans are
proven beneficial for conditions related to immunity. Glucans seem to
stimulate/irritate white blood cells called macrophages into action. Produced by
the bone marrow, macrophages patrol the body, gobbling up such foreign invaders
as bacteria and fungi. This increased white blood cell activity boosts immune
response and stimulates the production of immune cells. As a result, Beta
Glucans appear to indirectly intensify the immune system's ability to fight off
infection.
